Revisiting My Digital Marketing Journey: How I Would Start Again!

Starting in digital marketing can be a bit daunting because where you begin depends on your goals and how quickly you want to see results. Essentially, there are two main paths you can take to learn and grow.

If you prefer a more gradual, organic approach, diving into blogging is a solid option. However, be prepared for it to take some time — typically around 3 to 6 months — before you start seeing significant results. This method requires consistent effort and patience but can yield lasting benefits.

On the flip side, if you’re looking for faster outcomes, paid advertising such as Facebook is the best way to go. Facebook ads tend to produce quicker outcomes as compared to other advertising platform. It’s like the tortoise and the hare scenario: organic growth is slow and steady, while paid ads offer a swift sprint to the finish line.

The Starting Point

Reflecting on my own journey into digital marketing, I initially stumbled upon it while running an ecommerce side business during my undergraduate studies. Realizing the importance of digital marketing for business growth, I scoured the internet for free resources but found the plethora of information on platforms like YouTube overwhelming and disorganized. Consequently, I opted for a 3-month paid program to gain structured knowledge and guidance.

The Learning Curve

My experience involved a combination of blogging and utilizing Facebook ads. Through the program, I learned the ins and outs of blogging, including SEO strategies, keyword research, content formatting, and generating ideas. Concurrently, I dabbled in Facebook ads to drive quick sales for my online business. Witnessing the immediate impact of Facebook advertising, I became increasingly invested in honing this skill due to its high return on investment.

My Recommendation

Reflecting on my journey, I’ve come to recommend starting with paid ads, particularly Facebook ads, for newcomers. This approach offers a straightforward and speedy path to tangible results. Additionally, it’s often more cost-effective compared to other digital marketing avenues. To kickstart your Facebook ad journey, all you need is a decent amount of content on your page, whether it’s written or visual. Craft compelling ad copy, set up your ad account, and you’re ready to launch campaigns and reap the rewards.
